Buy a Pontiac G8 GT - Get Laid

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Here’s a Pontiac G8 review we never though we’d see. RideLust.com recently wrote an article entitled “10 Cars That Are Guaranteed To Get You Laid”. Featured on that list was a garage full of supers and exotics including the Lamborghini Gallardo, Corvette ZR-1, the Ferrari 430 Scuderia and others. All cars that would undoubtedly help Screech nail Kelly Kapowski.

But what about the rest of us guys who have to blink twice before ever comprehending the ability to drop $250,000 on a car? Well RideLust didn’t forget about us as they just published “10 Cars That Are Guaranteed To Get You Laid [On A Budget]“.

The Pontiac G8 GT came in at number 4 on the list, and while we (ahem) haven’t proven the theory correct, we can agree that the G8 will help you test out the 7-series size back seat with a little Barry White thumping on the Blaupunkt. RideLust says, “Although billed as the poor man’s 5-series, we guarantee the women you attract in a Pontiac G8 GT will be a.) just as hot and b.) less maintenance than anything you’d get in a BMW.”

The list in whole is:

  1. Dodge Ram 1500 ST
  2. MazdaSpeed 3
  3. Ford Mustang GT
  4. Pontiac G8 GT
  5. Chrysler 300 Touring
  6. Subaru Impreza WRX STi
  7. Dodge Charger SRT8
  8. Hyundai Genesis 4.6
  9. Hummer H2
  10. Ford Crown Victoria

We have to question the Crown Vic being on this list. The only action these things have ever seen in the back seat is when they’re being used as police cars.

Pontiac G8 & Water Bottles?

Tags: , , , , , , ,

With vehicle sales and the economy in a downward trend, the auto manufacturers are trying to find ways to conserve costs.  Metals have long been recycled, but now automakers and suppliers are increasingly turning to recycled plastics to offset rising costs, and recycled plastics are showing up in bumpers, splash guards and under the hood. The savings range from a few cents per pound to half the price of new plastic, which accounts for one-third to one-half of the price of many components.

If auto manufacturers can save money, while helping the environment, it’s a win-win for everybody.  We all know that there’s a possibility of a hybrid Pontiac G8 as its architecture is flexible to accommodate should GM decide to go that route.  But until then, Pontiac G8 owners will be able to sleep at night knowing they’ve already, unknowingly done their part in helping to save the environment.

Filed under, “I betcha didn’t know”.  GM uses recycled water bottles to make the carpet and floor mats in the Pontiac G8.  So the next time, you’re flying by a tree-hugging Prius driver whose nickel based battery production has a greater impact on the environment than a Hummer, you can feel good knowing that you’ve played your part to help the environment while driving a car that hauls major ass.

Official Pontiac G8 Sport Truck Name Announced - G8 ST

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

After 18,000 submissions in the Tame the Name promotion, several months of waiting, polls of G8 enthusiasts and El Camino loyalists, Pontiac has officially announced that the new segment-defining G8 Ute will be called the “G8 ST“. We love the name, however, we’re thinking that Pontiac will need the entire width of the tailgate should they decide to release a “Pontiac G8 ST GXP”. Alphabet soup anyone?

“Frankly, we were blown away by both the volume and quality of the names that were submitted,” said Craig Bierley, BPG product marketing director for cars and crossovers. “‘G8 ST’ was one of the most popular suggestions, plus we noticed a far broader trend toward simple, easy-to-remember names.”

So what about the El Camino nameplate? According to Pontiac, it was one of the more popular entries submitted as a moniker for the G8 ST. However, after months of consideration and feedback from people like you, GM has decided to honor the El Camino’s unique place as part of Chevy’s heritage and not use that nameplate on a Pontiac.”

Pre-production Pontiac G8 GXP Spy Shots

Tags: , , , ,

The G8 GXP was unveiled at the NYC Auto Show this past year and is expected to be available for purchase around the end of 2008 as a 2009 model. We have already been made aware of the official G8 GXP colors and we know that the 2009 G8 GT will not be offered with the 6 speed Tremec tranny, but the G8 GXP will.

While our sources tell us that the official GXP production has not yet begun, we have some spy shots of a pre-pro G8 GXP that were snapped from a member of the Australian LS1 & Holden Forums.

It’s nice to see the aggressively styled rear diffuser, Brembo brakes and GXP wheels still alive at this stage of the game.

You Ask Pontiac

Tags: , ,

G8Nation is just like any other media outlet. In order to find information that’s relevant to our readers, we have to do a little investigative reporting and scour our “Pontiac G8 wire” for new information and ask questions of sources that may have the answers for us. Often times, those sources are GM & Pontiac.

While we’re often the first to publish many Pontiac G8 facts and rumors, we’re limited by the questions that we ask. Why not use the knowledge and inquisitiveness of the entire Pontiac G8 community to get the answers we all want?

We want every Pontiac G8 owner, enthusiast and vendor to contribute to the “G8 Nation” by asking questions. That’s why we’re starting a new feature called “YOU ASK PONTIAC“.

Just to be clear, we’re not affiliated with Pontiac in anyway. But doesn’t it make sense that we let the masses tell us what they want to know about the Pontiac G8? Have a voice, leverage the principles of democracy and ask the questions that you want. Once you all speak up, we’ll bring those questions to our sources and try and get answers for you. This will truly make G8Nation a site that is for the G8 enthusiasts and by the G8 enthusiasts.

Getting into the YOU ASK PONTIAC program is easy:

  1. Register with G8Nation (be sure to complete all required fields and use invitation code “You Ask Pontiac”)
  2. G8Nation moderators will manually review every registration
  3. Shortly after you’re approved, you’ll receive details about how to get involved with G8Nation’s “YOU ASK PONTIAC” and ask anything you want about the Pontiac G8.

If you’re already a registered citizen of G8Nation, then you don’t need to register again. Just stay tuned for directions that will let YOU ASK PONTIAC.

Heeeeeere’s Ed McMahon & the Pontiac G8??

Tags: , , , ,

We’re not ones to opine as we usually try to just report the facts, but we have to say we’re a little confused by Pontiac’s choice to have Ed McMahon as pitchman for several comical commercials for the Pontiac G8, G6, G5 and Vibe. Don’t get us wrong, we have fond memories of him occupying the couch next to Johnny, but we just don’t understand the tie-in to Pontiac.

The former Johnny Carson sidekick got back in front of the camera last night to film the first of the four commercials to be shown during “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. The commercial includes Kimmel and McMahon together and will air Monday July 28 during the Jimmy Kimmel show on ABC.

McMahon said, “It felt very good to be out of the brace and working again,” McMahon, who recently underwent a third neck surgery, said during a telephone interview Friday morning. “I spent my whole life doing commercials, so here I was back doing a commercial again. It was very comforting. Believe me.”

In the four segments for Pontiac, the comedic duo point out various features of the Pontiac G8, G5, G6 and Vibe. One of the spots features McMahon teaching Kimmel how to properly sell a product, another has the duo preparing for a road trip to Mexico, and yet another Kimmel is locked in the trunk of one of the four Pontiac’s as McMahon pretends to be Jimmy Kimmel.

We’re excited to see Ed back on TV. Be sure to tune in Monday night during the Jimmy Kimmel show.

We apologize for the misleading photo with Ed and Alf, but we couldn’t find any photos of McMahon & Kimmel together. Besides, it’s not often we‘ll ever have a chance to post a photo of Alf.

Ed McMahon and Alf have officially been added to our celebrity Pontiac G8 list:

2008 Pontiac G8 GT Owned by Jay of Ohio

Pontiac G8 Owner Info:

Name: Jarrod (Jay) W.
Location:
Whitehouse, OH
Favorite G8 Web sites:
G8Nation.com, G8GTtech.com, G8GT.com,G8board.com
Board handles / nickname
: MANOFSTEEL69

Why did you buy the Pontiac G8?

I was really torn between 4 different cars; the Pontiac G8 GT, the G8 GXP, the Dodge Challenger, and a SRT-8 Dodge Charger. After months of researching and reading about the G8 GT and some soft prodding by my wife (Christina), I decided on the Pontiac G8. The main reason being the cost to performance ratio that far outclassed the other three of my choices. The GXP’s production is still up in the air, the Challenger over priced, and the Charger to big and clunky for my taste. For my wife, it was the tasteful, unassuming look of the G8GT. It’s the ultimate “Sleeper”; you don’t expect it to be anything but a 4dr sedan.

Pontiac G8 Info:

Year: 2008
Model:
G8 GT
Color:
Ignition Orange Metallic (77U)
G8 Nickname:
Tigger
Options (installed by factory or dealer before you took delivery):
None

Pontiac G8 Dealership:

What dealership did you purchase your Pontiac G8 from?
Patsy Lou Pontiac, Mt. Morris, MI

How was your dealership experience?
I ended up dealing directly with Patsy Lou Pontiac after a botched deal between my local dealer (Yark Chevorlet/GMC/Pontiac Waterville, OH), and Patsy Lou. I went into my local dealer expecting to pick up my car, only to find they never actually secured it. So I went home, called their Sales Manager Beth Middleton and purchased the car directly from them.

Pontiac G8 Aftermarket

Current Pontiac G8 Aftermarket Mods:
The first thing I had done to the car was a 20% Tint and the Diamond Paint and Underbody Protection through Ziebart, Toledo, OH.

Next I had Zinik Z27 Sofins w/my factory summer performance tires purchased and installed at BelleTire, Perryburg OH. Then I debadged the G8, except for the front Pontiac Emblem.

After some time spent on the phone with some various shops in the country I decided to go with New Era Performance in Rochester, NY. Mike Frumusa the shop owner and fellow G8 GT owner spent a lot of time with me on the phone about what he had done to his car. So with his input and that of the owner of American Racing Headers (Nick), I headed out on the 377 mile trip to get my work done. I had New Era install a Powerbond Harmonic Balancer 25% Underdrive Crank Pulley, a SLP 160 Degree Thermostat, a New Era Induction System along with having my throttle body ported and polished, an American Racing Header System, and a custom HP Tuner tune.

I have also done a few mods tried and tested by Charlie Van Wormer (Known as GRRRR8 on many G8 forums) who owns a very fast liquid red Pontiac G8 GT, and runs a Midas Muffler Shop in Sugarland, TX. This would include removing the intake manifold cover and a CAI air flow mod.

My engine cover has also been custom painted to match the car by my local body shop (Dave Geist Body Shop, Whitehouse, OH., now ran by and operated by Ray Moore) Also the addition of a Sirius Sportster 5 radio.

Future Pontiac G8 Aftermarket mods:
Future mods include painting the brake calipers to match the car, Corsa mufflers, a Vector Motorsports GM Heat soak Reduction Kit, a Magnacharger MP1900 Supercharger, a custom ground cam (through New Era Performance), and a complete Pedders Suspension System.

Pontiac G8 Likes & Dislikes

Favorite feature about the Pontiac G8:
The ability to carry 5 adults, with luggage and still haul ass!

Biggest complaint about the Pontiac G8:
Probably the wind noise through the sunroof closed, and mirror vibration with it open. The Atari style gauges on the center console, and the Euro-style seat adjustment knobs would also fit in this category.

Pontiac G8 Performance Info:

0-60: 5.2 seconds
¼ mile:
13.47@105.6MPH
Track:
Milan Dragway, Milan, MI
Other Performance Info:
347 RWHP, 360′Torque (assumed to be more than this, due to temperature conditions at time of testing)

Other Rides

What car was replaced by the Pontiac G8?
2003 ZX5 SVT Focus

Other cars in your garage?

  • 2005 ZX3 Ford Focus
  • 2003 ZX5 SVT Ford Focus
  • 2007 Harley Davidson Street Glide
Is there anything else you want to say about your Pontiac G8 that wasn’t already covered?

The G8GT is by far the most fun of any car I have ever owned. I could run down a list from a “69″ Z28 Camaro to a 300 series BMW, and a majority of them have all been fast performance oriented cars. I enjoy the comfort inside the car….Longest trip so far was 740 miles down to Columbia, SC and was done in one sitting. I could have turned around and came right back, no problem…actually I did about 10hrs later, lol. At the car shows I go to, the G8GT is an instant hit….It’s a what? It has how much horse power? It’s rear wheel drive? The list goes on and on. As does the list of why I love this car…..For those of us that own G8 GT’s we know the whys, and for those that don’t……Head down to your nearest Pontiac dealer and get a taste of the Australian built, but purely American Muscle Car……Before they become extinct.

Pontiac G8 Owner - Stealing Gas & License Plate

Tags: , , , , ,

Filed under “loser”.  Unfortunately, it looks like yet another Pontiac G8 owner has broken the law.  To one up the Pontiac G8 owner & thief in Little Havana Florida who was part of a gas stealing scheme, we now have reports of the theft of gas and a license plate.

According to Carlisle, PA Police, “the driver of a newer model gray Pontiac, possibly at G8″, stole $27.99 in gas from Sheetz at 1900 Ritner Highway at 12:48 p.m. Saturday July 19 also had a stolen license plate.

The Pennsylvania registration GZP9694 had been reported stolen from Mechanicsburg, police said. The driver was described as a male wearing a white or light-colored T-shirt and dark calf-length shorts who drove the car, possibly a G8, toward Interstate 81, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the theft to call 243-5252.

Stolen Pontiac G8 - Will Never be Found

Tags: , , , , , ,

The fine Police department of Greece NY has quite a case on their hands and they’ve put their best officers on the job. G8Nation is not trying to discredit their skills, but we’re certain they’ll NEVER find a recently reported stolen Pontiac G8.

It turns out that on Thursday July 10, a G8 was stolen from the Greenleaf Meadows apartment complex in Greece, NY. As any Pontiac G8 owner would do, as soon as the owner of said G8 realized his ride was missing, he wasted no time and immediately called the police and gave a very thorough description of the car.

According to police reports, the stolen car was a gold, 2007 Pontiac G8. I repeat, a gold, 2007 Pontiac G8.

Unlike previous Pontiac G8 related thievery, without the help of OnStar or surveillance cameras, the Greece PD really has their work cut out for them on this case.

If anybody has any information at all about either a 2007 G8 of any color, or a gold Pontiac G8 of any year, please let us know, because that would be one helluva story.
