Pre-production Pontiac G8 GXP Spy Shots

The G8 GXP was unveiled at the NYC Auto Show this past year and is expected to be available for purchase around the end of 2008 as a 2009 model. We have already been made aware of the official G8 GXP colors and we know that the 2009 G8 GT will not be offered with the 6 speed Tremec tranny, but the G8 GXP will.

While our sources tell us that the official GXP production has not yet begun, we have some spy shots of a pre-pro G8 GXP that were snapped from a member of the Australian LS1 & Holden Forums.

It’s nice to see the aggressively styled rear diffuser, Brembo brakes and GXP wheels still alive at this stage of the game.

Pontiac G8 ST Spied in Australia

Mike Freeman is currently down under on a business trip. While heading back to his hotel for a little R&R, he peeped a car hauler with two camouflaged utes loaded on it. He noticed that they had Holden wheels and Pontiac grills.

As any G8phile would do, Mike reached for his trusty camera phone and snapped a few shots. He has been kind enough to allow G8Nation access to all of his photos for viewing on G8Nation.com.

In an e-mail from Mike to G8Nation, he said “The only one (photo) that really shows that it is a Pontiac grille is the one where the truck is driving away, and even then it is hard to make out. Trust me though, in person, it was VERY clear.

Striped G8 Spotted at GM Proving Grounds

To date, the only stripes we have seen on the G8, are the ones on 50 Cent’s ride that was unveiled at SEMA. They were tastefully done and looked pretty slick.

It looks like GM has been experimenting with some new stripe designs and somebody close to the proving grounds in Royal Oak, MI has captured a few spy shots. Unfortunately, I think this is the worst application of stripes on American sheet metal I have ever seen.

One source close to GM has stated that the stripes are an option, however, a check on the GM Reference Guide and I notice there is no mention. Let’s hope GM can come up with something a little better looking.

Production G8 Spied Down Under

It was just a matter of time before the highly anticipated G8 production spy shots began to leak out, and thankfully one has. This G8 was spotted somewhere in Australia. At first glance, you may not notice too many differences between this and the concept. But squint your eyes and focus and you’ll notice that the silver concept logo between the grill has been ditched. Either that, or Bobby has plans for two different logos…one for the V6 and one for the GT, or perhaps better yet…the same one for the V6 & GT and the other one for the GXP. Hey…a guy can dream!

I assume that this is the “Stealth Blue Metallic”. I don’t think there is anything stealth about a purple streak flying through the streets accompanied with a trumpeting V8.

Liquid Red Pontiac G8 Peeped

The Kicking Tires crew had no intention of coming face to face with a Liquid Red prototype Pontiac G8, but since they did, they showed their preparedness and snapped some shots for the entire world to see.

This is a pre-pro shot of the most anticipated Pontiac in a generation. I’m happy to see the silver Pontiac logo that we saw at the Chicago Auto Show is still on the grill.

Charles Gibson is in Detroit this week doing World News Tonight from Motor City. While there, he had the pleasure of getting a peek of the Pontiac G8 courtesy to none other than GM CEO, Rick Wagoner. Rick escorted Charles into the Pontiac design studio and removed just enough draping off of the G8 to provide a teasing view of the front end.

The Pontiac G8 is expected to debut early next month at the Chicago Auto Show, displaying much more than just the front end of Pontiac’s latest “concept” vehicle.

The replacement for the “the plug should have been pulled years ago” Grand Prix has been spied. The G8 RWD sport sedan has the responsibility of bring excitement back to Pontiac. The G8 is based on the Australian division of GM’s, Holden Commodore. The Commodore and G8 will share platforms; however, the sheet metal will be unique. These are the first spy pics of the Pontiac G8, and while they did a great job of concealing the styling, at least we know that project G8 is underway.
