The Pontiac G8 GXP debuted at the NYC Auto Show this past March in an amazing color that seems like it could have been based on Ignition Orange Metallic (77U). As amazing as that color was, we hope you didn’t get too attached to it.

G8Nation has learned that GM is still discussing color availability for the Pontiac G8 GXP; however, we know three things are certain:

the show car color will not be available

there will not be any GXP-unique colors available

the availability of GXP colors is limited to the 2009 Pontiac G8 colors, however, it’s possible that certain colors may not be available on the GXP

The 2009 Pontiac G8 colors are:

OK ladies & gents, here is the result of the GM Sponsored Fashion Show, IMAGINE 2008. Five GM cars were selected to be inspiration for fashion design; the all-new, midsize sedan and 2008 North American Car of the Year, Chevrolet Malibu; the all-new European-style compact car, Saturn Astra; the all-new, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan, Pontiac G8; the special edition turbocharged, cross-wheel-drive performance car, Saab Turbo X; and the rugged, open-air, entry-level-size concept car debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show, HUMMER HX Concept.

Of course, the only one G8Nation is concerned with is the 2008 Pontiac G8 GT. Model Anastasia Lupu donned the G8 inspired garment as she stands in front of a Liquid Red (67u), 2008 Pontiac G8 GT. We have to say, Anastasia definitely does the Pontiac G8 justice.

Can you spot the G8 in these pics?

We’re a little shocked at the volume of feedback we’ve received on the first post about the Pontiac G8 Inspired Fashion…much more than we expected. Either you guys are getting in touch with your feminine side, or we have some women G8 enthusiasts out there. Even though the GM sponsored event has not yet taken place, we’ve located a sketch of the “wearable Pontiac G8″.

We’re sure its no easy task to take inspiration from a car and turn it into fashion. According to Kathy Embry, Dean of the School of Design Studies at the International Academy of Design & Technology, the inspiration for the Pontiac G8 inspired garment comes from the G8 flared fenders, confidence, & freedom.

We have to say that this may be just what we need to have our wives understand our passion for the Pontiac G8. It’s not a bad looking piece.

This Thursday, May 15, the International Academy of Design and Technology will hold their 29th annual student fashion show, dubbed IMAGINE 2008. Well, what the heck does that have to do with the Pontiac G8? Will it turns out that GM has sponsored the competition in which students created clothing that is based on some of GM’s hottest cars and concepts. Of course, you probably guessed by now that at least one of these fashions has to be inspired by the 2008 Pontiac G8…to be even more specific, inspiration has been drawn from the G8 GT.

G8Nation is just as excited as you are to see what this fashion will look like (maybe a little sarcasm in that statement). For those of you who really want to know more about this event, hop on over to International Academy of Design & Technology web site.

We’ll be eagerly waiting to get some photos or videos of the result. Stay tuned.

Thirty-six exceptional vehicle interiors representing from thirteen manufacturers will compete for top honors in the 9th annual “Ward’s Interior of the Year” awards. Sponsored by Ward’s AutoWorld magazine, the prestigious competition is part of annual Auto Interiors Show scheduled for June 4-5 at Detroit’s Cobo Center.

We all know that Bob Lutz has put amazing efforts on the design of recent GM interiors and it looks like the efforts are paying off. Lutz understood early on that GM gray was not going to win the hearts of potential customers and quickly made it a top priority to place significant attention of the interiors designs, ergonomics and usability.

Of the 36 nominees, roughly 20% of them are GM born and bred.

Of course, among the 36 “Interior of the Year Nominees” is none other than our beloved 2008 Pontiac G8.

Ward’s editors evaluate vehicle interiors on eight categories including:

material      selection

ergonomics

driver      information

safety

overall      value

comfort

fit      and finish

aesthetics      and design harmony

“In the years since we’ve been holding this competition, we’ve seen marked improvements in the overall design and quality of all automotive interiors, even in the economy segment. With great new features, materials and styling in all segments across the board, consumers now have a fairly level playing field in vehicle interiors, whether they select imports, new domestics or vehicles from U.S. automakers,” said Drew Winter, editor-in-chief of Ward’s AutoWorld magazine.

“It’s no longer acceptable to have a cheap looking interior, even in economy-priced vehicles. This is great for consumers, but it makes our job a lot more challenging.”

Winners will be announced at the Annual Auto Interiors Show, June 4-5 at Detroit’s Cobo Center.

Ahhh….the moment we’ve been waiting for. Pontiac took the sheets off the 2009 G8 GXP at the NY Auto Show today. At first glance, there aren’t very noticeable visual differences to the untrained eye. Some styling differentiators include updated front & rear fascias, the 19″ HSV wheels that were shown on the Pontiac G8 concept, and functioning hood scoops. The real story however is beneath the skin. The Pontiac arrowhead is now being propelled by the Corvette’s GM’s 6.2L LS3 V8…slightly detuned to a still impressive 402 ponies and 400 lb-ft of torque rearward via a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox or a HydraMatic 6L80 auto. Also included is a fully-adjustable spring setup and Brembo brakes. It looks like Pontiac is finally building some serious excitement.

PONTIAC ANNOUNCES THE 2009 G8 GXP

High-Performance Flagship Combines Progressive Design and Powerful Performance

NEW YORK - Today Pontiac announced the flagship of its GXP performance series, the G8 GXP high-performance sedan, at the New York Auto Show. This 2009 model will join the Solstice, G6 and Torrent GXP models in Pontiac dealerships in late 2008. The G8 GXP takes the G8’s responsive driving experience, refined passenger environment and aggressive good looks to a new level. It also delivers an enjoyable driving experience, thanks to a 6.2L V-8 that produces in excess of 400 horsepower.

“More than just raw power, the GXP delivers the sophisticated yet exciting driving experience that enthusiasts expect in a car costing far more than the GXP,” said Jim Bunnell, Buick-Pontiac-GMC general manager

Engine performance

The heart of the G8 GXP is the 6.2L LS3 small-block V-8, currently rated at 402 horsepower (300 kW)* and 402 lb.-ft. of torque (546 Nm)* pending final SAE certification. This engine is the newest member of GM’s small-block V-8 family. It features a revised, larger-bore cylinder block, high-flow, L92-style cylinder heads; larger-diameter pistons; unique camshaft and camshaft timing; revised valvetrain with offset intake rocker arms; high-flow intake manifold; and high-flow fuel injectors.

The LS3 engine has an aluminum cylinder block with cast-in-place iron cylinder liners. Larger bores help create a 376-cubic-inch displacement. The block casting also features revisions and machining in the bulkheads to enhance its strength and improve bay-to-bay breathing. New pistons were designed for high-rpm performance.

New, high-flow cylinder heads aid engine breathing and are based on the large port and valve design found on the LS7 engine and other GM L76 engines. The larger-capacity, straighter intake port-design optimizes intake flow to the combustion chamber, an effect augmented by large valves, measuring 2.16 inches (55.0 mm) on the intake side and 1.59 inches (40.4 mm) on the exhaust side.

Pending final testing, the G8 GXP is expected to deliver 0-to-60 mph performance of about 4.7 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 13.0 seconds at 108 mph.

Six on the floor

A new six-speed Tremec TR6060 manual transmission is optional on the G8 GXP. This next-generation manual smoothly transfers the engine’s power and torque to the rear wheels with a reduction in shift throw. The transmission features a host of refinements including premium gear synchronizers; stronger gears, housing, and bell housing; a single-piece counter shaft; and machined gear teeth.

The standard Hydra-Matic six-speed 6L80 automatic transmission is technologically advanced and robust. It uses a clutch-to-clutch operation and an integrated 32-bit transmission controller to deliver smooth and precise shifts. The six-speed has a generous 6.04:1 overall ratio that enables a “steep” first-gear. The result is strong launch acceleration along with “tall” overdrive ratios that lower engine rpms for better fuel economy and reduced noise.

A 3.27 final drive ratio comes with automatic-equipped GXPs, and a 3.70 gear is matched with the manual transmission. A limited-slip differential is standard.

High-performance suspension

The G8 GXP rides on the G8’s 114.8-inch (2915 mm) wheelbase with wide front ( 62.7 inches / 1,592 mm) and rear ( 63.3 inches / 1,608 mm) tracks. The four-wheel independent suspension is fully adjustable and is tuned for the highest performance in the G8 family. The GXP’s ride and handling was developed and validated on racetracks and highways around the world, including the famed Nürburgring racing circuit. It rewards the driver with sharp, immediate responses, as well as a well-balanced road feel during spirited driving.

The suspension employs a MacPherson strut design in the front and a four-link, coil-over-shock design in the rear. A direct-acting front stabilizer bar, decoupled rear stabilizer bar and lateral ball joints on the rear suspension deliver increased lateral stiffness for more responsive handling. The front suspension features fully adjustable caster, camber and toe; the rear suspension has fully adjustable camber and toe, for more precise tuning.

Steering and brakes

The steering rate for the GXP is tuned to provide immediate response with definitive driver feedback. Like the G8 sedan and GT, the GXP’s steering box is located ahead of the front axle line for a quicker, more direct feel.

The Brembo braking system matches the GXP’s boost in performance with an equivalent increase in stopping power. The system includes 14-inch (355 mm) vented front and 12.76-inch (324 mm) rear disc rotors, with special quad-piston alloy calipers in front. The alloy calipers on the rear brakes have single-piston actuation. The four-wheel disc brake system includes standard anti-lock brakes and traction control.

Wheels and tires

The GXP rides on 19-inch polished aluminum wheels with a special machined face. Performance-oriented summer P245/40R19 tires are standard, and a comparable all-season tire is available. Combined with the suspension and steering enhancements, this setup gives the GXP exceptional cornering grip.

Exterior styling

The G8 GXP exhibits strong Pontiac design cues. A unique front fascia with a lower splitter and a distinctive rear fascia diffuser contribute to its sporty look. The dual-port grille, fog lamps, bold wheels and confident, wheels-at-the-corners stance are all unmistakably Pontiac traits.

Interior amenities and comfort

The G8 GXP’s interior is driver-oriented with aesthetic and tactile details like instruments with a sporty appearance that match the car’s performance. Interior materials consist of satin and chrome trim and high-quality textured materials throughout. The instrument cluster glows with crisp, white light on the primary instruments. Pontiac’s signature red lighting illuminates the rest of the instrument panel cluster.

Standard comfort and convenience amenities include:

* Highly bolstered two-tone sport seats with color-coordinated gauge cluster and GXP embroidery

* Leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear shifter

* Power-adjustable front seats

* Fog lamps

* Alloy sport pedals

* A 230-watt Blaupunkt audio system

* XM Satellite Radio

The seats offer firm support to hold occupants in place during aggressive cornering. The standard heated leather seats were designed to deliver excellent comfort during long drives. They are available in Ebony or an Ebony/Red two-tone.

Safety

Maintaining the G8’s tradition of a full suite of standard safety features, the G8 GXP includes:

* Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and traction control

* Electronic stability control

* Seat-mounted thorax air bags and dual-stage frontal air bags for front passengers, with automatic passenger sensing system

* Roof rail side-impact air bags for both seating rows

* OnStar

There are several reason to be excited about the NY Auto Show this March, and the list of reasons just got better. The crew 2 pickUpTruck.com is reporting that Pontiac will debut a production ST pickup.

The Pontiac ST pickup is based on the Holden VE Ute that recently debuted down under. The level of effort to “Pontiac-ize” the VE is minimal and involves little more than transplanting a G8 front clip onto the VE to transform it to a Pontiac ST

PickUpTruck.com is also reporting that the Pontiac ST will be offered with a 256-HP V6, as well as a 361-HP V8. The engine choices are due to two factors. First, the rumored Pontiac Sport Wagon has been cancelled so the General has decided to use that V6. Also, by offering both the V6 & V8 on the ST, Pontiac is able to balance out the effect it has on GM’s CAFE rating.

This bad boy was officially unveiled at the Wynn Hotel in Vegas at SEMA 2007.

Some of the mods include a shoehorned LS7 (yeah…from the Z06) cranking out 500 ponies, red leather seats and armrests and a booming 800-watt JBL sound system. Hmm….LS7…can that be a sign of a GXP? Anyway, all of these mods translate to one helluva fast and loud ride that will snap the necks of those in the passenger seat and those trying to get a peep. Personally, I think I can do without the oversized 50 Cent fender badges.

What you’re looking at is the SEMA edition of the Pontiac G8. The color is called Ignition Orange Metallic. Other than the slick paint, there are a few other noticable differences between this SEMA G8 and the other G8s. On the inside, Pontiac has done a nice job of implementing a 2-tone interior with orange accents. Outside you can see 20 inch rims that were pulled from the G8 concept…it’s a shame that they’ll never make production.

Pontiac says the GT SEMA Edition also includes a lowered sport suspension and upgraded brakes with drilled and slotted rotors. Under the hood, you’ll find the same 6.0L V8 power plant that’s in the production G8 GT. It would have been nice to see a different engine under the hood to lead us all to speculation about a GXP.

PRESS RELEASE:

PONTIAC G8 GT SEMA EDITION

Designed for enthusiasts who are passionate about performance, the all-new Pontiac G8 performance sedan - arriving at dealerships in early 2008 - is the first North American application of GM’s new global rear-wheel-drive architecture. The V8-powered G8 GT SEMA Edition was displayed at the ‘07 SEMA Show with a host of tuner-inspired custom touches, including a hot orange paint scheme with matching leather seat inserts, door panels and instrument panel pad.

Under the hood is the production 6.0L V-8, rated at 361 horsepower (268 kW) and 385 lb.-ft. of torque (520 Nm). A six-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control backs the powerful small-block engine and complements a four-wheel independent suspension outfitted with unique 20-inch wheels and performance tires.

The G8 GT SEMA Edition car is equipped with production equipment that includes:

Standard ABS and traction control augmented by high-performance HSV brakes

Electronic stability control

Seat-mounted thorax air bags and dual-stage frontal air bags for front passengers, with automatic passenger sensing system

Roof rail side-impact air bags for both seating rows

OnStar with available Turn-by-Turn navigation

Power-adjustable front seats

Fog lamps

Quad polished stainless steel exhaust tips

Rear lip spoiler

Augmenting the SEMA Edition is a series of modifications, including:

Custom orange exterior paint

Orange-accented interior components, including seat inserts, door panels and instrument panel pad

Enhanced brake package with drilled and slotted rotors

Lowered performance suspension package

Twenty-inch wheels with performance tires

The G8 has a progressive styling package highlighted by strong Pontiac design cues, such as a dual-port grille, fog lamps, bold wheels and a confident, wheels-at-the-corners stance. The car’s design accents Pontiac’s performance lineage, with fenders that flare over the wheels, seemingly hugging the wide tires and enhancing its athletic stance.

Distinctive elements include hood scoops and front fender vents, as well as projector-beam headlamps housed in crystal-clear lenses. At the rear, taillamps feature bright detail work surrounding the red lighting elements.
