In a side by side comparison of the 2008 Pontiac G8 GT and the 2008 Dodge Charger R/T, Car and Driver placed the Charger in 2nd place and the Great 8 in 1st.
The 2008 Charger R/T was equipped with the Road & Track Performance Group including 20 inch wheels, stiffer suspension, and a less restrictive exhaust that increased the output of the 5.7L Hemi to 350 ponies. The Charger easily eclipsed the G8 with a longer wheelbase, 5.2 inches longer from bumper to bumper and an extra half inch in height. All of this brawn adds up to 4,160 pounds that produced a lower hp/lb ratio than that of the G8 that weighed in at 140 lbs less with an extra 11 hp.
The Charger completed the ¼ mile in a respectable 14.3 seconds @ 100 mph. The G8 dialed in at a 13.8 seconds @ 104 mph.
2008 Dodge Charger R/T:
Highs - macho curbside presence, front seats worthy of a BMW, ergonomically correct.
Lows - Numb steering, lengthy stopping distance, sunroof compromises rear headroom
The Verdict - Yeah, that thing’s got a Hemi in it. But a Hemi is no loner quite enough.
2008 Pontiac G8 GT
Highs - Big V-8 punch, world-class brakes, sure-footed no matter how fast you dance.
Lows - Awkward front-seatback adjustment, where’s the nav option?
The Verdict - The BMW that Pontiac always wanted to build.
Another win for the Pontiac G8!
