After writing their review of the 2008 Pontiac G8 GT, Cars.com finally had the chance to take the G8 V6 Sedan for a drive. Editor Mike Hanley quickly notes the similarities in the exterior visual characteristics between the G8 V6 and its V8 sibling. Similiarities include the twin slits in the hood, tautly pulled fenders over the tires and the lower grilles. The most differentiating exterior visual cues are the wheels, taillights and exhaust.
On the inside, Hanley notes that the G8 sedan is not available with the 2-tone leather as in the GT and there are different gauges.
According to Hanley, the biggest difference between the V6 sedan and the GT …hold on tight for this one folks…lies beneath the hood. “Where the GT’s 361-hp, 6.0-liter V-8 drives the sedan forward with authority when you mash the gas pedal, the 256-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 doesn’t provide the same kick as the V-8. It’s still entirely acceptable, however, and is by no means an underpowered car. The V-6’s exhaust note isn’t as melodic as the V-8’s, either. Pontiac says the base G8 can hit 60 mph in 7 seconds, while the GT can do it in 5.3 seconds.”
