Well, this news is a little old, but since we didn’t see it published on any of the usual Pontiac G8 sites, we figured we would give it some spotlight at G8Nation.com.
We believe this is the first report of a stolen Pontiac G8.
Just one day after being paroled from San Quentin, 40 year old Robert Steinmiller, was caught and arrested for stealing a 2008 Pontiac G8.
On Wednesday, April 9, Steinmiller walked into Lehmer’s Concord Buick, Pontiac, GMC dealership shortly after noon. Steinmiller approaches a salesperson and expresses an interest in the G8. He then asks for the keys so he can listen to the Blaupunkt. The salesman gets the keys and hands them to Steinmiller. He wasted no time in starting the G8 and driving away…before the salesman was able to tell him about a nifty little OnStar feature called “Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance”.
The G8 was immediately located by GM’s OnStar service in Walnut Creek, California, about 6 miles away from the dealership.
A police sergeant caught up to Steinmiller and the G8 and tried to get him to pull over unsuccessfully. Steinmiller dropped the hammer and sped away. Multiple police cars pursued and made the stop in a townhouse complex near the intersection of Sierra Lane and Walnut Boulevard.
What parolee from San Quentin would go cooperatively? Not Steinmiller! He jumped out off the hot G8 and attempted to flee. Of course, Concord, CA’s finest caught him and took him into custody.
Should we file this under “test drive”?
Please let us know if you purchase a 2008 Pontiac G8 from Lehmer’s.
