When GM gave some f the trade pubs the keys to the G8, they should have asked for their laptop batteries in return. It appears as though the freedom of the press has completely ignored their first drive impressions of the Pontiac G8 GT before the imposed embargo by GM gave permission.
G8 Nation would never disobey the general (subtle hint to GM if you ever want to throw us the keys). However, since the news is out, we’ll be enablers and point you to the rebellious source that disobeyed Mr. Lutz.
Popular Mechanics was lucky enough to drive the Great 8 in Malibu, and as expected, they were in awe of the experience. In addition to the obvious insanely fast performance numbers, Popular Mechanics notes that the steering and handling of the G8 GT leaves the biggest positive impression. Even the six-speed automatic was praised, but I hope that doesn’t stop Pontiac from letting us row our own gears with a six-speed manual.
